Škoda has revealed a concept for a futuristic-looking electric sedan that pays tribute to one of its most iconic cars.
The concept car, part of the manufacturer’s “Icons Get a Makeover” series, is based on the Škoda 100, the first vehicle from the Czech company to surpass the milestone of 1 million units sold between 1969 and 1977.
Like the other imaginary models in the series, the “new” Škoda 100 adopts the brand’s Modern Solid design language.

Martin Paclt, Škoda’s exterior designer who specializes in headlamp design, resisted the temptation to rely on retro references and instead brought a more futuristic touch to the vehicle.
For example, the car has no rear window. In its place, a curved body-colored panel was installed, incorporating a central fin that acts as an air intake and houses the third brake light.
Despite the radical transformation, there are still subtle references to the classic 100. Even without a rear-mounted engine, the designer added discreet air intakes to the rear fenders.

The LED light bars at the front and rear reference the chrome strip and engine air outlet of the original model. There is still a fuel cap on the front fender, which now conceals the charging port.
Although the 100 was a relatively small car, with a length of only 4,155 millimeters, the concept for the new 100 turns it into a larger vehicle.
The designer felt that a small overhang made sense for a platform dedicated to electric vehicles. This architecture also made possible a dual-trunk layout, with the rear cargo area positioned above the powertrain assembly.

If you got excited about the car, it’s worth noting that the concepts in the Icons Get a Makeover series are created just for fun and will likely never leave the drawing board to enter production.
